Early in my career as a counselor in a community agency, I saw firsthand how closely a person's general sense of well-being and confidence are connected to their career identity. Also, It became apparent that career development is rarely linear. It is often circular or even web-like, with most of us experiencing the significant points of self-discovery, awareness, exploration, decision making, planning, etc. in a very personal way, with no rigidly prescribed course or order. This complexity fascinated me.
