Growing up I bounced around the foster care system, but education was always my place of escape. In education I wasn't defined by the obstacles in my life, but I was able to pursue knowledge and growth. In my undergraduate career, I took the position of a Resident Assistant because of the impact that I saw others in the role having. This allowed me to see the impact that student affairs could have on students coming from many diverse backgrounds and situations. As a graduate student, I continued my journey of lifelong learning, and developed the skills that were necessary for me to utilize in my career. Working as a Graduate Assistant allowed me to continue assisting students as they grow and develop in the pursuit of their own careers, and I have continued on this path ever since.C.S. Lewis stated, “Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.”
