Prep for your role
CSM loops test a specific set of skills across distinct rounds. Know what each round is grading, bring the right framework, and practice the parts that break under pressure.
A customer success manager interview usually spans five rounds: a recruiter screen, a customer story (how you saved or grew an account), renewal and expansion, a live QBR roleplay, and behavioral. STAR carries the story rounds, and HEART gives you the vocabulary to talk about account health like an operator, not a salesperson.

See all MongoDB CSM questionsCSM interviews grade whether you can talk about account health in a structured way, not with a vague 'the customer was happy'. HEART (Happiness, Engagement, Adoption, Retention, Task success) is the same vocabulary you already use for QBRs and renewal calls, so it turns a health narrative into something that sounds like a real CSM operating framework instead of a sales pitch.

HEART: Happiness, Engagement, Adoption, Retention, Task success. It gives you a structured way to describe account health that matches the vocabulary CSMs actually use in QBRs, instead of a vague 'the customer was happy'.
Interviewers watch whether you lead with the outcome rather than dumping metrics, whether you know the two or three numbers that matter to that specific account, and whether you can hold the room through pushback on renewal or expansion.
Prepare 6 to 8 STAR stories covering an account save, an expansion you drove, and a stakeholder conflict you resolved. CSM behavioral rounds probe how you hold a customer relationship together when something is going wrong.
Talk through a customer-story and a QBR prompt out loud against a timer, since structure under pressure is exactly what is graded. A voice mock interview can pose a CSM prompt and score whether your answer stayed structured and account-health-led.
