Recruiter screen
Whether your background, the territory or segment you're targeting, and your reason for the move genuinely line up with the role.
Prep for your role
Sales loops test a specific set of skills across distinct rounds. Know what each round is grading, bring the right framework, and practice the parts that break under pressure.
A sales interview usually spans five rounds: a recruiter screen, a live sales pitch or demo, deal strategy (pipeline and MEDDIC-style qualification), customer discovery, and behavioral. Each round rewards a clear structure, so the highest-leverage prep is learning what each grades and rehearsing your STAR stories for the behavioral round out loud.

Browse sales interview guides by companyMost sales loops include a recruiter screen, a live pitch or demo of the company's product, a deal-strategy round on pipeline and qualification, a customer-discovery round, and a behavioral round. Senior AE and enterprise roles weight deal strategy more heavily; SDR and BDR roles weight the pitch and discovery rounds most.
A strong pitch leads with the prospect's pain instead of a feature list, and ties directly back to whatever the interviewer said during discovery. Interviewers are grading whether you listen and adapt live, not whether you recite a script.
Interviewers want to see you qualify a deal, often MEDDIC-style (Metrics, Economic buyer, Decision criteria, Decision process, Identify pain, Champion), and navigate multiple stakeholders in one account rather than treat every contact the same. Vague pipeline talk with no qualification structure is the most common way candidates lose this round.
Prepare 6 to 8 STAR stories covering quota attainment, a deal you saved or lost and what you learned, a tough stakeholder or objection, and a time you owned a number under pressure. Sales behavioral rounds especially probe whether your wins are backed by real evidence, not just confidence.
Talk through pitch and discovery prompts out loud against a timer, since structure and listening under pressure are exactly what is graded. A voice mock interview can pose a sales prompt and score whether your answer stayed structured and prospect-led.
